Musarc folk meet on a midsummer day until dusk II

On repetition: Musarc folk meet on a midsummer day until dusk II is Musarc’s second event of music, performances, food and society on the occasion of the longest evenings of the year.

The concert features traditional choral works by Carlo Gesualdo, a ball by Claudio Monteverdi, and hymns by one of the most eccentric figures in early American music, William Billings. Most pieces are sung twice, repeated with unusual arrangements and changed lyrics; and in dramatic settings and physical performances by the choir developed with actor Ben Hadley.

The evening includes screenings of Anton Lukoszevieze’s atmospheric Mapping Amnon and Joseph Kohlmaier's L’Oreille Sauvage d’après Truffaut (both 2015); and new commissions from Neil Luck including Over & Over, a most unusual round, and an audio screening of Phantasy: a three-way collaboration between Luck, violinist Chihiro Ono and holographic mega-pop-star Hatsune Miku, produced for Drivetime Underground.

There will be no artifical lighting at the event and the concert will end during sunset, at approximately 9.17pm, with a new interpretation of Lin Chiwei’s 200m-long score Tape Music: Score for Musarc.

See images from Musarc's Folk meet 2015 at the Round Chapel by Yiannis Katsaris. Bar open all evening. Food by Helly's Kitchen.
